Soft Wash vs. Pressure Wash for Raleigh Roofs: What’s Safest and Most Effective

Roof cleaning is one of the most misunderstood exterior services in North Carolina. Many Raleigh homeowners worry that pressure washing will damage their roof, and in most cases, that concern is valid.

Those dark streaks on your roof are typically caused by algae feeding on the limestone in asphalt shingles. Raleigh’s warm, humid climate allows algae to spread quickly, especially on shaded roof sections.

Pressure washing can strip shingle granules, shorten roof lifespan, and even void manufacturer warranties. That is why soft washing is the preferred method for roof cleaning in the Triangle.

Soft washing uses low pressure combined with professional cleaning solutions that kill algae at the root. This method removes stains safely and delivers longer-lasting results without damaging roofing materials.

Across Raleigh, Cary, and Durham, we routinely see roofs that were damaged by improper cleaning methods. Soft washing protects your investment while restoring your roof’s appearance.

If you notice black streaks or discoloration, it is time for professional cleaning.
